Last (almost) Broken Mile

4 May 2022

As I ease into my taper, I took 10% off my Broken Mile test set this morning, by skipping the 4th round of 3 x 50, but this will be the last time I do a version of this set before I race. I also shortened my standard, long 1,750 yard warmup by dropping the round of speed 25s. My warmup speed was decent enough:

  • 100s free - 1:12, 1:10, 1:05, 1:03

  • 100s IM kick on back - 1:32, 1:30, 1:28, 1:25

  • 50s build IM order - 31, 33+, 39+, 31+

So the "Broken Mile" was 1,500 yards in total, consisting of 3 rounds of:

  • 3 x 50: on 0:45

  • 2 x 100: on 1:25

  • 1 x 150: on 2:05

Results compared to earlier this year and back to my best ever performance on this:

  • November 12, 2015:

  • 50: solid 0:29s, maybe one 0:28+ and one 0:30-

  • 100: 0:59s/1:00-s

  • 150: 1:30, 1:29, 1:28+

  • February 27, 2022

  • 50: 32 to 33+

  • 100: 1:05, 1:05, 1:06+, 1:06, 1:07+, 1:07

  • 150: 1:39, 1:41, 1:43

  • April 13, 2022

  • 50: solid 0:31, getting to 0:30s on last two of the 4th round

  • 100: 1:04, 1:02+, 1:04+, 1:04, 1:04, 1:04

  • 150: 1:37, 1:37, 1:37+

  • April 20, 2022

  • 50: 30+, 31, 30+, 31, 31, 31, 31, 31, 31, 31, 30+, 30-

  • 100: 1:03, 1:03, 1:03, 1:03, 1:03+, 1:03+

  • 150: 1:36, 1:35, 1:36

  • May 4, 2022

  • 50: 30, 31, 30+, 30+, 31, 31,31, 31, 31

  • 100: 1:03, 1:02+, 1:03+, 1:03, 1:04, 1:04

  • 150: 1:35, 1:36, 1:36+

I held conistent with a couple of weeks ago, but this took A LOT of effort. I am feeling powerful in the water, but my stroke is a little disconnected and I'm still entering the water with residual fatigue. That will go away; plenty of time to rest.
