Booster Proof

6 May 2022

A year ago yesterday, 5 May 2021, I had gotten my second COVID-19 vaccine dose (Pfizer), so it seemed to make sense to celebrate the anniversary by get boosted today. I got my shot yesterday afternoon, after a morning workout of 2,500 yards which featured a main set of IM speed 25s. This morning, I was back at LA Fitness with a sore left shoulder and some residual fatigue (the only side effect I've ever had from the vaccine), but powered through a good taper workout, with two weeks until race time:

  • 1 x 400: IM, kick drill by 25

  • 8 x 50: descend in 4s

    • first four with snorkel on 0:50 - 35, 34, 32, 30

    • second four swim on 0:45 - 35, 32, 31, 31

  • 1 x 50: easy scull/drill with snorkel

  • 8 x 25: on 0:30, underwater streamlined dolphin kick with flippers in sets of 4

    • #1 - moderate, 2 breaths

    • #2 - moderate, 0 breaths

    • #3 - moderate, 1 breath

    • #4 - AFAP, 0 breaths

  • 1 x 50: easy scull/drill with snorkel

  • 8 x 25: on 1:00 per pair, odd lengths IM order fast into a speedy transition turn (e.g., fly-back, back-breast, etc.) evens easy

  • 1 x 50: easy scull/drill with snorkel

  • Broken 200s set

    • Round 1 = 1 x 200 straight + 50 easy on 4:00, was 2:07+

    • Round 2 = 1 x 200 broken for 0:10 at the 100 + 50 easy on 4:30, was 2:03+ (1:01, 1:02+)

    • Round 3 = 1 x 200 broken for 0:10 at the 50s, was 1:58 (28+, 30, 30, 29+)

  • 4 x 50: active recovery on 0:45, 0:50, 0:55

  • 8 x 25: on 1:00 per pair, odd lengths IM order fast into a speedy transition turn (e.g., fly-back, back-breast, etc.) evens easy

  • 3 x 50: active recovery on 0:45, 0:50, 0:55

This kind of hurt, but in a John Cougar kind of way.
