Fulcrum Focus

23 September 2021

Continuing my trip down swim memory lane into my 2011 workouts. I was reminded of a piece of equipment I used to train with fairly regularity to help enforce a high elbow catch

on my freestyle, and a proper catch on my backstroke: the Finis Forearm Fulcrum:

I don't think I've pulled these out of the deep recesses of my swim stuff since I moved to Canada in 2019, so just toyed around a bit with them during my warmup. This morning was a quick one, intended to be a lighter effort between yesterday's actual and tomorrow's planned harder workouts:

Warmup (700 yards)

  • 1 x 400: IM, kick-drill

  • 12 x 25: on 0:35, w/Fulcrum, single arm, 6 right arm, 6 left arm, odds free, evens backstroke

Main Set (1,500 yards)

5 rounds of:

  • 1 x 200: IM, on 3:30, 3:15, 3:15, 3:00, 3:00

    • #1 kick-drill

    • #2 drill

    • #3 drill-swim

    • #4 and #5 swim, making #5 faster

  • 1 x 100: on 1:45, kick w/board, dolphin-flutter

I did another 50 easy for 2,250 yards total. Longer, faster, harder tomorrow.
